Bhubaneswar: Alleging involvement of ruling BJD leaders including Ministers in murder, sexual assault and other crimes, BJP on Saturday threatened to launch a 4-hour sit-in ‘Satyagraha’ across Odisha to protest worsening law and order situation in the state.
Addressing a press meet in Bhubaneswar, state BJP president Samir Mohanty said the party will hold ‘Satyagraha’ for four hours near statues of great personalities on December 26 against the state government’s alleged failure to maintain law and order. The party will protest rising incidents of atrocities against women and criminalisation of politics by the ruling BJD, he said.
Alleging that Oidisha has become a save heaven for the criminals and anti-social elements during the last 23 years of the BJD rule, he said the people of the state are peace-loving and proud of Jagannath culture.
However, involvement of BJD leaders, including Ministers, in murder, sexual assault and anti-woman activities have been alleged in the last 23 years, the senior BJP leader claimed.
Coming down heavily on the BJD government, Mohanty alleged that spurt in crimes, particularly against women, seems to be the only achievement of the regional party.
Stating that former Minister Dibya Shankar Mishra’s role in Mamita Meher murder case was under suspicion, he said the death of Gobinda, prime accused in the case, in Kantabanji jail in Balangir district has raised many questions as it happened just before his scheduled appearance before a local court.
Mohanty alleged that Sahu was suspected to have been murdered inside the jail as there was fear that he would expose the leaders involved in the case.
Hitting out at the BJD government over the Mahanga double murder case, the BJP leader claimed that the role of former Minister Pratap Jena was under suspicion. Surprisingly, the prime accused in the case was mowed down by a truck, he said.
Similarly, Gop Zilla Parishad Member Dharemdnra Sahoo had taken the name of School and Mass Education Minister Samir Ranjan Dash in his last video, Mohanty claimed.
