Odisha-Born Artist Represents India At Int’l Sculpture Expo

Bhubaneswar: Odisha-born sculptor Gadadhar Ojha is representing India at the ongoing International Sculpture Symposium in the Art Colony at Danilovgrad, Montenegro. The event will conclude on September 30.

Here are 10 things you need to know about this sculptor:

  1. Ojha was born and brought up at the quaint seaside village of Gorh Bangor, Badagaon, in Puri district.
  2. Hailing from a family of sculptors, he never aspired to pursue the family tradition.
  3. Ojha studied at Utkal University.
  4. When he landed in Delhi to prepare for the company secretary examination, however, Ojha was drawn to the sound of hammer and chisel on stones and found himself visiting the Delhi College of Arts, where he honed his skills as a sculptor.
  5. Ojha believes that he was destined to be drawn towards the art of sculpting.
  6. The bounties of nature, culture and tradition of Odisha inspired his imagination and find expression in his work.
  7. Though the sculptor feels that stone expresses his ideas best, he has experimented with a wide range of materials, including granite, marble, sandstone, wood, metal, ice, snow and bronze.
  8. He has carved a niche for himself as one of the best sculptors in the country.
  9. Ojha has represented India in symposiums all over the world, including France, Belgium, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Finland, Denmark, Romania, Russia, Argentina, Canada, Cyprus, Lituania, Armenia, Crete (Greece), Mexico.
  10. The sculptor has been living in Paris for the past 19 years.
