Jaipur: Senior Odia IPS officer Utkal Ranjan Sahoo has been appointed as the Director General of Police (DGP) of Rajasthan for a period of two years or until further orders.
Sahoo, who had been given additional charge of Rajasthan police chief after the previous incumbent Umesh Mishra opted for a voluntary retirement on December 29, has been appointed the full-time DGP, sources said.
Sahoo, a 1988 batch IPS officer, demonstrated his potential for the position of the DGP through his successful coordination of the conference of Director Generals and Inspector Generals in Jaipur. The conference was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
After receiving an approval from the Union Public Service Commission, Chief Secretary Sudhansh Pant traveled to Delhi for a meeting. Following this, the government appointed Sahoo as the DGP, the sources added.
