Bhubaneswar: Odia IPS officer Utkal Ranjan Sahoo has been made the Director General of Police (DGP) in Rajasthan following the VRS of incumbent Umesh Mishra.
As per reports, Sahu will hold additional charge of DGP Rajasthan and also continue to perform the duties of his present post of DGP Home Guards till further orders.
Mishra, who was appointed DGP of Rajasthan on October 27, 2022, had applied for immediate VRS citing personal reasons and it was accepted on Friday, they said.
Born in Odisha, Utkal Ranjan is a 1988 batch IPS officer of Rajasthan cadre. He has done M.Tech (Engineering Geology) and is currently working as the DG of Home Guards in Rajasthan.
In 1991, he worked as an Assistant SP in Jodhpur East. Later, he worked as the chief of police in several districts of Rajasthan including Hanumangarh, Sikar, Banswara, Sriganganagar, Bhilwara.
He received the Police Medal in 2005 and the President’s Police Medal in 2017.
Umesh Mishra, who hails from Kushinagar in Uttar Pradesh, is considered one of the favorite officers of former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot. His application for VRS came barely a month after the BJP came to power in the state.
