Lucknow/Bhubaneswar: A 14-year-old boy, hailing from Odisha, died by suicide in Lucknow after being reprimanded by his mother for spending considerable time playing games on his phone.

According to reports, the deceased was studying in a private school and had shifted to Lucknow from Odisha with his family in May this year following the transfer of his father, serving in the 93rd Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force. He was the middle child.

His elder brother stays with their grandparents in Odisha, while his younger brother lives with the family in Lucknow.

The Class 8 student took the extreme step after his mother scolded him for not focusing on his studies and using his mobile phone at night. He was found hanging from the ceiling fan with a rope in his room. The mother lost consciousness on discovering the body.

“The family has not made any allegations against anyone in connection with the case,” India Today reported, quoting Ashiyana Police station in-charge, Chhatrapal Singh.
