Odisha Boy Invents Low-Cost Solar Sprayer Machine

Bhadrak: Moved by his father’s “trouble” in spraying insecticides, a diploma student in Bhadrak district has invented an automated solar sprayer machine.

The young inventor, Tatsat Swain, is pursuing a diploma course in electrical engineering. He is the son of Biswanath Swain and Pramila Swain of Bahadulnagar in Bhandaripokhari block.

Asked about his invention, Tatsat said his father, who is a farmer, had once asked him to spray pesticides in their paddy field. “As I used the sprayer machine, I realised how much pain my father had to go through to use the hand pedal of the machine. To make my father’s work easier, I came up with an idea. Later, I purchased a solar panel and arranged a used motorcycle battery and fitted them to an old sprayer machine. I succeeded in my effort as it worked perfectly,” he added.

He said the new machine automatically sprays pesticides once it is charged and there is no need to use the hand pedal. “With this new sprayer, one can effortlessly spray pesticides in more areas in paddy and vegetable fields. Besides, the power stored in the solar panel also provides electricity in the house. To top it all, this machine costs only Rs 3,500,” he said.

Tatsat further said that he will be able to market the indigenous sprayer machine if the state government provides financial assistance to him.
