Baripada: In pursuit of cleanliness, a student of Baripada in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district has invented a low-cost smart dustbin with the use of information technology.
A Class XII student of Satya Sai Vidya Mandir, Anubhav Sarangi, says he has applied a simple technology.
“I have put a sensor in this smart dustbin. Its cover will open automatically when the user comes near to it. A striking feature is that the software in this dustbin will be linked to a mobile through GPS so that the user will be alerted the moment the dustbin is filled up,” Anubhav said.
To the question on how this idea struck him, he said, “I have noticed that dustbins emanate a smell as they are not covered. To keep the environment clean, I thought about an idea to keep it closed when not in use. I am sure this smart dustbin will be immensely helpful in keeping the environment clean and healthy,” he added.
