Bhubaneswar: The low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal has intensified into a well-marked system, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Monday.
The system has moved west-north-westwards and now lies as a well-marked low-pressure area over the east-central and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal.
The system is likely to continue moving in a west-north-westward direction and concentrate further. It is likely to intensify into a depression during the next 24 hours over the west-central Bay of Bengal. After becoming a depression, it is expected to further intensify into a deep depression during the subsequent 24 hours.
Continuing its track, the system is very likely to reach the west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal near the South Odisha – North Andhra Pradesh coasts around the morning of September 23.
Under its influence, several coastal, southern and western districts of Odisha are likely to receive heavy to extremely heavy rainfall between September 22 and 26, the IMD said, while issuing red, orange and yellow warnings for different parts of the state during the period.
The weather system is expected to bring a spell of widespread rainfall across the state, particularly over southern and coastal Odisha during the period. Fishermen have been advised to refrain from venturing into the sea during the period. Those already in the sea have been advised to return immediately.
