Odisha Braces For Nor’westers Till April 2; Rain To Lash Cuttack City & 15 Dists In 3 Hrs

Bhubaneswar: Odisha may continue to experience nor’westers spells till April 2 even as a cyclonic circulation persists over north parts of the state.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of light to moderate  rain or thunderstorm, lightning with gusty wind (30-40 kmph) at one or two places in Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Khandamal, Boudh, Nayagarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Cuttack(including Cuttack City), Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts till 4.15 pm on March 29.

People have been advised to keep a watch on the weather and move to safer places to protect themselves from lightning strikes.

According to the midday bulletin, thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind (30-40 kmph) may occur at isolated places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Koraput and Malkangiri till March 30 morning. Light to moderate rain or thunderstorm may also occur

at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Boudh, Kandhamal, Koraput, Malkangiri, and Rayagada.

Squally weather with wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph gusting to 50 kmph may also prevail occasionally along & off the North Odisha Coast on March 29.

Similar stormy weather warning has been issued for Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar,, Koraput and Malkangiri during the subsequent 24 hours. Light to moderate rain or thunderstorm may also occur at one or two places in  Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri.

On March 31, yellow warning of thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind (40-50 kmph) has been issued for isolated places in the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada and Gajapati. Similar weather conditions with wind speed up to 30-40 kmph may occur in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada and Gajapati districts on April 1, and in Koraput, Malkangiri and Nabarangpur on April 2.

The weather agency further stated that the day temperature may gradual rise by 2-3°C across the state after 2 days.
