Bhubaneswar: Excise officials have seized brown sugar worth over Rs 28 lakh in Odisha capital Bhubaneswar and arrested one person.
The accused, arrested during an operation on Saturday, has been identified as Tuna Nayak, sources said on Sunday.
Following a tip-off about the smuggling of brown sugar, a team of exscise officials carried out raid at a place in Kedarpali slum area in the city and recovered the contraband packed in over 1000 packets.
While the contraband was seized, police have arrested the accused who was found in possession of the brown sugar, which was valued at around Rs 28 lakh.
A case has been registered an investigation launched into the matter to ascertain the exact shape and nature of the smuggling network and identify others involved in the racket, sources added.
