Bhubaneswar: With mystery shrouding the death of BTech graduate Chinmayee Priyadarshini Sahoo in Sambalpur, BJP stalwart and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Jayanarayan Mishra on Friday said the issue will be raised in Odisha Assembly if police fails to conduct proper probe.
Claiming that police investigation in many cases including that relating to Chinmayee’s death is under suspicion, Mishra said the issue will certainly be raised in the Assembly if police does not take right steps in its probe.
If necessary, the issue will be raised outside the House also and BJP will hit the streets to ensure proper investigation into the mysterious death of Chinmayee, BTech graduate from Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT), Burla, he said.
Claiming that the role of police is under suspicion, the senior BJP leader alleged that instead of trying to solve the case in a fair and transparent manner, police seems to be making an attempt to suppress facts.
Mishra further said he has learnt that the father of the person against whom police complaint has been registered in Chinmayee death case reportedly happens to be holding a high position in the Home department.
Stating that people are losing faith in the police because of their style of functioning, the firebrand BJP leader alleged that the ruling party has also been misusing the police force for its own political interest.
Notably, Chinmayee went missing after attending the convocation at the varsity on Tuesday night and her body was fished out of the power channel of Hirakud Dam the following morning.
Meanwhile, police have registered a murder case against two of Chinmayee’s male friends, including Pritiman Dey, on basis of a complaint lodged by her family.
Suspecting that Chinmayee was strangulated to death, her family had lodged a written complaint against them. Pritiman had reportedly accompanied her to the power channel.
Chinmayee’s bag, laptop and other documents have also been seized from her rented house at BJB Nagar in Bhubaneswar. She was staying in Bhubaneswar and preparing for CDS examination.
