Odisha Budget: Rs 2000-Crore For MGNREGS To Cover 20 Migration-Prone Blocks

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has made a provision of Rs 2000 crore under MGNREGS in its Budget for 2021-22 to provide minimum wage rate in 20 migration prone blocks of Bargarh, Balangir, Kalahandi and Nuapada districts.

The budget provision also includes Angul, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar and Jajpur and 3 blocks of Mayurbhanj, according to a Panchayatiraj and Drinking Water department release.

The total Budget provision for the department is Rs 20293.94 crore out of which, Rs 15188.43 crore is under programme expenditure, Rs 522.11 crore administrative expenditure, Rs 2023.46 crore 15th Central Finance Commission and Rs 2559.94 crore under 5th State Finance Commission.

The target and achievements of various schemes of the department are as follows:

  • Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana (Grameen), Biju Pucca Ghar Yojana, (Mining & Nirman Shramik Pucca Ghar Yojana): 3,94,468 houses were completed incurring an expenditure of Rs 4628.75 crore under Rural Housing Schemes in 2020-21. There is a Budget provision of Rs 3000 crore for 2021-22.
  • National Rural Livelihood Mission: 20938 SHGs were promoted, 36933 SHGs availed Community Investment Fund (CIF) assistance, around 32000 community cadres and 29.50 lakh SHG members trained on COVID-19 awareness in rural areas, 2089 WSHGs involved in mask production and around 56.59 lakh masks and 2980 PPE kits produced. Rs 1200 crore provisioned.
  • Rural Water Supply & Sanitation: As on date,4,69,497 tube wells and sanitary wells installed and 13050 piped water supply schemes have been commissioned to provide safe drinking water to rural areas. During 2020-21, it was targeted to complete 350 solar based mini piped water supply project against which 209 solar pumps installed in hand pumps tube wells. There is a budget provision of Rs 6000 crore under Jal Jeevan Mission, Rs 850 crore under BASUDHA and Rs 1221.46 crore under RIDF for 2021-22.
  • Swachh Bharat Mission: There is a budget provision of Rs 200 for implementation of SBM(G) phase-II programme.
