Odisha Budget Session From March 25, Govt To Present Vote-On-Account

Bhubaneswar: The Budget Session of the Odisha Assembly is scheduled to begin on March 25 and continue till March 31, Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro informed on Tuesday.

According to the official notification, the 9th session of 16th state Assembly will begin at 11 am with the customary Governor’s address. Discussion on Governor’s address will be held on March 26 and March 28 with March 27, which is a Sunday, being a no meeting day.

Finance Minister Niranjan Pujari will present the annual Budget (vote-on-account) on March 30 and Appropriation Bill on March 31, Patro added.

Vote-on-account is the interim permission given to the government to obtain the vote of the Assembly to withdraw money when the budget for the new financial year is not passed.

There has been speculation about the state government preparing for vote-on-account because of back-t0-back panchayat and urban local body elections. The ULB polls are slated for March 24 and the model code of conduct will be in force till March 26, when the counting of votes is held.
