Bhubaneswar: The polling for bypoll to Padampur Assembly constituency in Odisha’s Bargarh district, which is slated for December 5, will begin at 7 am and continue till 4 pm.
A decision in this regard was taken at an all-party meeting chaired by the Chief Electoral Officer Sushil Kumar Lohani for conducting the by-election smoothly and in a free and fair manner, on Monday.
The polling duration was reduced in view of the winter season and Maoist threat, sources said.
Meanwhile, the BJD nominated Barsha Singh Bariha, daughter of late MLA Bijaya Ranjan Singh Bariha, as its candidate for the by-election. Pradip Purohit and Satya Bhusan Sahu are the candidates for BJP and Congress respectively.
While the 2.5 lakh electorate will exercise their franchise on December 5, the results of the bypoll will be declared on December 8.
