Odisha Cabinet Approves Dam Rehabilitation & Improvement Project-III For Hirakud

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Cabinet has approved a proposal to take up three significant projects with an estimated cost of Rs 1,066.38 crore over a period of 6 years under the Dam Rehabilitation & Improvement Project-III (DRIP-III).

The project will be implemented with the assistance of the World Bank and Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) funded under the Externally Aided Project.

Sharing details, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi told reporters that additional spillway of Hirakud dam will be constructed on the left dyke.

Construction of additional spillway of Hirakud Dam will ensure safe passage of additional flood. Further, the underwater, ground and aerial survey of distressed conditions, analysis with selection of state-of-the-art modern materials for rehabilitation measures using modern machineries and equipment and its videography will enhance the longevity of the dam.

Replacement of manual gate operation with remote operation system using SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) through DRIP-III under the supervision of national and international experts will help in better control and monitoring.

Similarly, the work for underwater, ground and aerial survey of distressed conditions of Hirakud dam and its rehabilitation measures will be taken up. Automation of existing gates and proposed additional spillway gates of Hirakud Dam by using SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system will also be done.
