Odisha Cabinet approves irrigation project worth Rs 635 Cr

Bhubaneswar: The state cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik approved 11 important proposals, including an irrigation project named after former Chief Minister Nabakrushna Choudhury.

Following the crucial meeting, Health Minister Pratap Jena informed that 55, 000 hectares of land will be irrigated and canal system will be revived under the three years’ project worth Rs 635 crore.

“The state cabinet has approved amendments to Wildlife (Protection) (Odisha) Rules, 1974 and increased compensation for the kin of those killed in wild animal attack to Rs 4 lakh from Rs 3 lakh. Similarly, a compensation of Rs 2,000 will be paid to those who lose goat and sheep in wild animal attack,” he added.

Besides approving a tender of water resources department worth Rs 6,000 crore, the cabinet has reduced VAT on LPG (for both domestic and industrial use) by 5 per cent from 15 per cent.
