Bhubaneswar: The special task force (STF) of the state Crime Branch (CB) on Sunday took over the investigation into seizure of SIM box from Berhampur.
“A team of STF and Economic Offences Wing (EOW), including cyber investigators, led by an additional SP have been sent to Gopalpur to
conduct a thorough probe into the case,” tweeted Crime Branch Special DGP B K Sharma.
The FIR filed alleges that illegal telephone exchange was
facilitating international calls and had linkages with organized
criminal groups, he added.
On Saturday, four persons were arrested during a joint raid by Mumbai Crime Branch and Berhampur police for their alleged underworld links. The matter came to light after Crime Branch sleuths traced a phone call made by
Honk Kong-based gangster Chhota Rajan’s close associate Suresh
Pujari, demanding Rs 2-crore ransom from a Mumbai-based realtor through SIM boxes, facilitated by these accused persons.
