Bhubaneswar: A CBI court in Bhubaneswar on Friday sentenced ex-Gramin Dak Sewak Branch Post Master (GDSBPM) of Kathakata in Anandapur of Odisha’s Keonjhar to 4 years rigorous imprisonment with fine of Rs 85,000.
The court’s verdict came during hearing of a case related to fraudulent withdrawals from postal accounts by the GDSBPM Sujit Kumar Patra.
The CBI had registered a case in this connection in December 2015 on the complaint of Superintendent of Post Offices, Keonjhar division against Patra.
It was alleged that Patra, while working as GDSBPM of Kathakata, misappropriated public money to the tune of Rs 5.23 lakh from savings account of 28 customers through fraudulent withdrawals.
The fraud was carried out during March 2012 to April 2015, CBI sources said.
“After investigation, chargesheet was filed against accused on December 29, 2016. The court after trial held the accused guilty and sentenced accordingly,” the CBI stated.
