Odisha Celebrates Diwali: Governor, CM Mohan Majhi, Dy CMs Extend Greetings; Twin City Cops Put On Alert

Bhubaneswar: On the auspicious occasion of Diwali, political leaders across party lines in Odisha took to social media platform X to extend warm festive wishes, praying for peace, prosperity, happiness, and harmony across the state.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi greeted citizens in a message posted on X, writing: “On the occasion of Diwali, the festival of joy and light, I extend my heartfelt wishes and greetings to everyone.”

Joining the festive greetings, Deputy Chief Minister KV Singh Deo offered special prayers on the twin occasions. In his message, he stated: “On the auspicious occasion of Diwali and Kali Puja, may the divine blessings of Maa Kali bestow strength, wisdom and prosperity upon all. May the radiance of the festival of lights bring peace and happiness to every household across Odisha, while our rich cultural traditions continue to inspire unity, faith and harmony. Wishing everyone a blessed Kali Puja and a joyous Deepavali.”

Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida also conveyed her good wishes, saying: “Heartfelt greetings and best wishes to everyone on the occasion of Deepavali, the festival of lights. May this sacred festival fill everyone’s life with happiness, peace, prosperity, and the light of new hope.”

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also shared his heartiest wishes on X, invoking the blessings of Goddess Laxmi and Lord Ganesha to fill every home with happiness, good health, and brightness.

Notably, both CM Majhi and Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik have decided not to hold or join personal Diwali celebrations this year. The decision was taken in solidarity with the thousands of people impacted by recent natural disasters and cyclone-induced flood devastation across several districts of the state.

Odisha Governor Braj Mohan Ram also greeted people on this auspicious occasion. “Wishing all my brothers and sisters and the people of the state a happy Diwali, the great festival of light. May this sacred festival dispel darkness from everyone’s lives and bring new hope, enthusiasm, peace, and progress,” he posted on X in Odia.

Meanwhile, police in Kataka and Bhubaneswar have stepped up security, tightened firecracker sales checks, and put comprehensive measures in place for a safe, peaceful celebration. Two special inspection teams, consisting of local police personnel, Fire Services officials, and representatives from the State Pollution Control Board, have been pressed into action to inspect retail outlets. A total of 27 sections of police force will be deployed across all 24 police stations in Bhubaneswar. The tactical arrangement features static police pickets stationed at 14 key traffic junctions, complemented by round-the-clock mobile patrols and dedicated Police Control Room (PCR) vehicles traversing vulnerable zones.

Emphasising community cooperation, Police Commissioner Suresh Devdatta Singh has issued an appeal urging residents across both urban centers to adhere strictly to safety guidelines and observe the festival of lights responsibly.
