Bhubaneswar: Chilika MLA Prashant Jagadev was released from jail on interim bail on health grounds.
The MLA, however, has been asked to surrender after seven days. The Orissa High Court had earlier granted interim bail to Jagadev in the case of ramming an SUV car into a crowd near the Banpur block office in Khurda district on March 12. The court had granted seven days of interim bail to the legislature for medical treatment.
It is pertinent to mention that the MLA had sustained grievous injuries on March 12 as an irate mob assaulted him soon after he rammed his car into the crowd outside a block development office in Odisha’s Khurda district, which was a grim reminder of the Lakhimpur Kheri incident. Around 25 people, including women and 10 police personnel, sustained critical injuries in the incident.
He was arrested on March 22 after he was discharged from a private hospital in Bhubaneswar and lodged at Banapur Sub-Jail.
