Bhubaneswar: Moving a step closer towards elections to 105 municipalities in the state, likely soon after the Panchayat polls, the Election Commission has sent Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) to 15 districts in the first phase. On Wednesday, EVMs were sent to five districts, while on Thursday they were sent to 10 districts.
Elections will also be held in Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and Berhampur municipal corporations.
Earlier, the district collectors of all districts had issued a notification on ward-wise restructuring and reservation. People filed their objections regarding the notification by November 14, following which, the collectors looked at the complaints and declared a final list of ward-wise restructuring and reservation.
However, ward reservation lists of Rourkela and Sambalpur have not been published due to pending court cases, which has cast uncertainty over the holding of elections to the civic bodies in these two places.
The final lists are scheduled to be published on December 29.
