Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday advised his council of ministers to have lunch with children at government-run orphanages and schools and Aahar centres across Odisha during their official tours to check quality of food being served there.

Instead of having lunch at hotels or somewhere else, the minister can have midday meals with inmates of orphanages, school students and differently-abled persons and know the quality of food being served at these facilities, the CM said.

He said the feedback will help improve facilities at these centres.

The ministers have also been advised not to publicise such trips and limit the number of people accompanying them to 3-4 to maintain secrecy.

“The surprise visits will ensure better quality and administration of the centres,” Naveen said.

The ministers have been asked to add the details of these (aforementioned) visits while submitting reports on their monthly tours.

The Chief Minister has also advised all senior officers of the state government to follow the advisory during their district visits.

After a whirlwind tour of the undivided Koraput district, Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy, 5T Secretary VK Pandian and National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) Director Shalini Pandit had lunch at the Aahar centre of Boudh district headquarters hospital on October 11. Two days later, Pandian was seen having lunch with the inmates of Manoj Manjari Sishu Bhawan at Keonjhar.
