Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has announced cash awards for the Olympians from Odisha ready to try their luck in the Games in Tokyo later this month.
While Rs 6 crore would be awarded to the gold medalist at the Tokyo Olympics 2020, the silver medal winner will receive Rs 4 crore and the bronze medalist will get Rs 2.5 crore.
He also announced an award of Rs 15 lakh for each of the players who have qualified for the Olympics. The cash will be given for preparation for the games.
Stating that every sportsperson dream of going to the Olympics, Naveen congratulated ace sprinter Dutee Chand, para shuttler Pramod Bhagat and hockey players Deep Grace Ekka, Namita Toppo, Birendra Lakra and Amit Rohidas for making the cut.
“You have become a role model for the youths of Odisha. You are a source of pride for your family and for all of us. I hope that you will win medals through hard work, determination and discipline,” he added.
