Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday announced financial assistance of Rs one crore for the development of Surajmal Saha College in Puri.
While addressing the 45th annual day function of the college, the Chief Minister stated that the state government would provide an amount of Rs one crore for the overall development of college infrastructure.
Describing knowledge as the real power, Majhi said in today’s rapidly changing society, knowledge is the only asset as a few years of student life give direction to the entire life of an individual.
Stating that today’s education system has undergone a major change, he said now there are ample opportunities for employment and to make the most of this, there is a need for appropriate skill development and training along with studies.
Majhi said the Narendra Modi government at the Centre has made provision in the Union Budget for internships with stipends for one crore youth of the country to be industrially employed through established companies. Under the guidance of the Prime Minister, New Education Policy 2020 has been launched in the country. “Our goal is to make the youth qualified through a holistic education,” he said.
The Chief Minister further said that the government has a plan to bring about a major change in the education sector in Odisha. To strengthen the foundation of primary education in the state, Godabarisha Mishra Model Primary School will be established in every panchayat.
The Chief Minister inaugurated the newly constructed classrooms and administrative building of the college and laid the foundation stone for the construction of the building of the Science and Commerce Department.
CM Majhi also felicitated students of the college who won medals in the South Asian Combat Championship held in Kathmandu, Nepal and excelled in the All-India Coastal Trekking and Mountain Course.
Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj, who attended the event as the chief speaker, said that the eminent social worker Surjamal Saha was a symbol of courage, sacrifice, dedication and perseverance. He always tried to bring about changes in the education system, said Suraj.
