Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Sunday announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh each for the next of the kin of three children, who died in a fire mishap at Kharichhata village under Polasara block in Ganjam district.
Four children had suffered severe burns in a fire that broke out in a haystack, where they were playing, earlier in the day. Three among them succumbed to the injuries during treatment later.
The Chief Minister also extended free treatment to the injured and wished him speedy recovery.
According to sources, the four children, identified as Sairam Jani, Alok Jena, Deepak Gouda and Itishree Jena, were rushed to Community Health Centre at Polasara in a critical condition by their family members and other villagers. As their condition worsened, they were then shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.
Doctors at the hospital said that the children had sustained 80 per cent burns.
Sairam, Alok and Itishree succumbed to the burn injuries while undergoing treatment at the hospital later. The condition of Deepak is stated to be critical, sources said.
