Odisha CM Announces Rs 5 Lakh Ex-Gratia For Victims Of Odisha Train Tragedy; Briefs PM Modi On Injured

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Sunday announced Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia for the victims of the train accident in Odisha’s Balasore .

The assistance will be given from Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, official sources said.

Those who sustained serious injuries will get Rs 1 lakh. This ex-gratia assistance is applicable to the victims of Odisha only.

The CM conveyed his deep sympathy to the bereaved families and wishes speedy recovery of the injured .

Naveen also spoke to Prime Minister Narendra Modi over phone and briefed him about the latest situation, particularly on treatment of the rail accident victims.

He assured that all possible steps have been taken to save the lives of injured passengers in different hospitals of Odisha. The doctors, medical students are doing their best they can to save lives. Doctors, students and common people are also coming forward to donate blood for the injured persons.

Stressing his government’s policy ‘Every Life is Precious,’ the CM said that starting from the rescue operation to carrying injured to hospitals, making arrangements for treatment, the state is leaving no stone unturned to save lives.

Detailing about the latest situation, he said that 793 of 1175 patients admitted to various hospitals have been discharged. Most of the injured patients are in stable condition, he added.

Currently, 382 passengers are undergoing treatment in various government and private hospitals, Naveen informed.

PM Modi thanked the CM, Odisha government for the prompt and efficient action during the crisis. The Centre is ready to provide any kind of assistance if required, he said.

He also praised the people of Odisha for the kind of support and timely help in this hour of crisis.

The 3-way train accident, involving Coromandel Express, SMVP-Howrah Superfast Express and a goods train at Bahanaga in Balasore district on June 2, has claimed at least 288 lives.
