Odisha CM Announces Rs 7 Cr For Alma Mater, Launches Projects Worth Rs 160 Cr

Bhubaneswar, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Sunday inaugurated 16 projects worth about Rs 42 crore and laid the foundation stones for several others valued at Rs 118 crore at Anandapur in Odisha’s Keonjhar.

While attending the 61st annual function of Anandapur College, Majhi also announced a financial assistance of Rs 7 crore for the infrastructure development of his alma mater. A multi-purpose hall, a seminar hall and a sports ground would be developed with the sanctioned amount.

“Student life is always a struggle. This struggle will make you successful one day. Strong faith in your hard work and the blessings of teachers will take you to your destination,” the CM said while drawing from his days as a student of Anandapur College, where he did his Plus II in 1987.

“I feel blessed to have got the opportunity to study in such a great institution,” he added.

The CM also announced a grant of Rs 2 crore for development of Anandapur sub-divisional hospital and Rs 20 crore for the complete revamp of the stadium at Anandpur.

Hitting out at the previous BJD government, Majhi alleged that the New Education Policy 2020 was not implemented in Odisha “due to political reasons”. He also mentioned about PM Usha Yojana, implemented at the college level, to strengthen the higher education system. “Our government has brought reforms in both education and examination fields in higher education. Along with improving the quality of education, we are working to ensure that students get employment on the basis of their merits,” he said.

The CM further stated Rs 41,273 crore has been allocated for the education sector, which is 14.2 per cent of the total budget and 3.9 per cent of the GSDP, with Rs 3,655 crore for the higher education sector alone.

Earlier this month, Majhi had announced that his alma mater, Champua College where he did his graduation, will be transformed into a National Excellence Centre. He announced Rs 4 crore for the construction of a three-storey building to enhance the college’s infrastructure. Additionally, he declared the introduction of Integrated BEd courses alongside Sanskrit and social sciences within the existing streams of commerce, geology, and arts.
