Balangir: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday announced that Rajendra College in Balangir district will be upgraded to a university.
During his one day visit here, he addressed a conclave of Biju Yuva Vahini at the Rajendra College ground.
“The Odisha Government is seriously considering the upgradation of Rajendra College,” said the CM.
People in the district welcomed the CM’s announcement of the CM, as this has been their long-standing demand.
It is believed that Rajendra College is the oldest college in the district having been established in 1944 and was affiliated to Utkal University. On January 1, 1967, it was affiliated to the Sambalpur University. Post graduate departments in the college opened in 1978-79.
According to sources, five months back, some students from here had met MP Kalikesh Singh Deo and submitted a memorandum demanding university status for the college.
