Bhubaneswar: As 336 newly appointed Sub-Inspectors joined the Odisha Police, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday asked them to use their power to deliver justice to vulnerable sections of society and uphold the core mantra of ‘Service and Protection.’
Addressing the passing-out ceremony of the 13th batch at the Biju Patnaik State Police Academy in Bhubaneswar, Majhi advised the young officers to follow three principles to guide their careers — stay away from corruption, maintain highest standards of discipline, and never misuse the power of the uniform.
He congratulated 336 newly appointed Sub-Inspectors, including 70 women officers, who successfully completed two years of rigorous indoor and outdoor training.
The Chief Minister prescribed three key principles for the new officers to guide their careers in uniformed service.
First, he asked them to stay completely away from corruption, in keeping with the government’s zero-tolerance policy. Second, he stressed the need to maintain the highest standards of discipline in the uniformed service. Finally, Majhi urged the officers never to misuse their authority and to ensure that the innocent are protected while criminals face strict action in accordance with the law.
He called upon the officers to remain vigilant and exercise their powers with fairness, integrity and restraint.
Majhi urged the newly inducted officers to use the authority vested in them responsibly and ensure justice for vulnerable sections of society.
He called upon them to work with the guiding principle of “Service and Security”, ensuring that no innocent person is harassed while no offender escapes the reach of the law.
Emphasising the changing nature of crime, Majhi highlighted the need for Odisha Police to continuously upgrade its capabilities to tackle cybercrime, technology-enabled offences and other emerging threats.
Stressing the importance of smart policing to make the police force more effective, responsive and technologically equipped, the Chief Minister highlighted the need for continued modernisation of the police department and development of its human resources as Odisha moves towards greater industrialisation and economic prosperity.
The Chief Minister stated that 17,794 new posts have been created in the police department over the past two years, while 5,817 posts have been filled. Vehicles and fuel allowances are also being provided to improve the operational efficiency of police stations.
Majhi further reiterated the government’s commitment to transforming Odisha into a drug-free state by 2029.
Director General of Police (in-charge) Binayatosh Mishra also addressed the gathering, urging the new officers to dedicate themselves to delivering justice to the people. Police personnel must discharge their responsibilities with courage, commitment and integrity, he said.
