Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, demanding 1.84 lakh houses for families affected by Cyclone Fani under Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana Gramin (PMAYG) and 13 lakh houses for districts not affected by the cyclone, especially tribal and KBK districts.
While thanking the PM for sanctioning 8.17 lakh houses under PMAYG, Patnaik drew Modi’s attention to the woes of families in KBK and other tribal districts who are without a roof, as well as those rendered homeless after Cyclone Fani.
Patnaik said that while the Rural Development Ministry had set a deadline of March 7, 2019 to identify the families who had been left out, the state government could only identify 35,000 families within that period as officials were busy with election preparations.
