Odisha CM Hands Over 6,390 Appointment Letters To New Recruits, Warns Against Corruption

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday distributed appointment letters to 6,390 new recruits for nine different departments and advised them to be honest public servants as the state government will not tolerate any form of corruption.

The anti-corruption department is now active and no one can know when and where it will reach, Majhi warned.

While handing over the appointment letters at a Nijukti Mela (appointment fair) held at the Capital High School ground in Bhubaneswar, the Chief Minister affirmed the government’s commitment to employment generation.

Addressing the newly recruited government employees, he emphasised that government jobs are not just a source of livelihood but also a crucial avenue for public service.

While 6,390 candidates received appointment letters, the Health and Family Welfare Department led the recruitment with 2,878 new hires, followed by the School and Mass Education Department with 2,767 appointments.

Other departments that participated in the recruitment drive include the Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Department with 232 appointments, the Finance Department with 130 appointments, the Skill Development and Technical Education Department with 123 appointments, the ST & SC Development Department with 104 appointments, the Housing and Urban Development Department with 62 appointments, the Water Resources Department with 57 appointments, and the Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Department with 37 appointments.

Majhi said that in the past seven months, the government has organised six Nijukti Melas, creating over 20,000 jobs. With the latest Nijukti Mela, the total number of recruitments has surpassed 26,000. The government aims to provide 65,000 government jobs within the first two years and 1.5 lakh jobs over the next five years.

Addressing the new recruits, the Chief Minister acknowledged the scarcity of government job opportunities, emphasizing that less than one percent of Odisha’s population is employed in the government sector.

He noted that even after including vacant positions, the total number of government employees in the state remains around 4.5 lakh.

He told the recruits that they are among the privileged few who have secured a government job, which is a result of their hard work and their parents’ blessings.

He urged them to embrace their roles with dedication, integrity, and a sense of service, ensuring efficient implementation of government programs at the grassroots level.

The Chief Minister underlined the government’s commitment to clean and corruption-free administration, stressing that strict action is being taken against corruption. He advised the new employees to uphold integrity and make the best use of their opportunity to serve the people of Odisha.

The event was attended by several prominent leaders, including Deputy Chief Ministers Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo and Parvati Parida, who praised the government’s transformative steps in employment generation.
