Rourkela: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday launched the Advanced Sanitation Programme that will cover Rourkela Municipal Corporation, Biramitrapur Municipality and Kutra and Koira blocks in Sundargarh district.
Over 190 advanced machines and vehicles will be provided to facilitate sanitation management in the respective areas. Four Micro Composting Centres were also inaugurated in Rourkela on the occasion.
More than Rs 69 crore has been allotted for the project funded by District Mineral Foundation (DMF), Sundargarh and Rourkela Municipal Corporation.
Speaking on the occasion, Naveen said, “The sanitation workers play an indispensable role by keeping our surroundings clean and safe. We should appreciate their role as the prime ‘Sevaks’ of the society.”
Similarly, women members of SHGs are being empowered to handle modern sanitation operations. They spread awareness among people, handle door-to-door garbage collection, and manage micro composting centres, he added.
District collector Nikhil Pavan Kalyan said, the sanitation scenario of Smart City Rourkela is going to be transformed. The work carried out manually by sanitation workers will be done by using machines, delivering quality services to citizens.
“The programme will also ensure safety and dignity to the sanitation workers. More machines and manpower will be provided to enhance the quality of service,” he said.
