Bhubaneswar: With an aim to improve quality in teaching and bring competitive spirit among students, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday launched an award programme for school education for which Rs 100 crore will be spent.

Under the ‘Mukhya Mantri Sikhya Puraskar Yojana’ (MMSPY), students excelling in education, educational institutions and headmasters, teachers, sarpanchs, school management committees and former students would be awarded.

Announcing awards worth Rs 100 crore to be given every year for 5T transformational and other schools, the Chief Minister said that these awards would be presented at block, district and state levels to 50,000 students.

This apart, 1500 headmasters and teachers, school management committees, sarpanchs and former students will get awards every year, he said.

Making a slew of announcements at the closing ceremony of the children’s day celebrations in Bhubaneswar, Naveen also launched digital locker for the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) and Board of Secondary Education (BSE). This will ensure security for the certificates, mark sheets and other documents of students and make it easy for them to access these.

Addressing the students, the Chief Minister advised them to understand the value of time and do everything in time in order to achieve success in life. Apart from studies, students should try to excel in sports, games and cultural activities.

Emphasising that change is inevitable, Naveen said the students must adapt to changing situations and face new challenges coming their way. They should also develop scientific temper in them, he said.

The Chief Minister also asked the students to be responsible and sincere and respect all including teachers, family and others who make significant contributions towards building their careers.
