Cuttack: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for over a hundred projects worth Rs 1,500 crore in Cuttack district.

Patnaik was in Cuttack to launch the distribution of smart health cards under Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY) in the district. The CM launched the scheme that will cover over 5.5 lakh people in the district.

Addressing a rally, Patnaik said that the SCB Medical College and Hospital was being developed into an ‘AIIMS Plus’ institute.

He announced that the Biswanath Pandit Central Library, which was demolished at Khannagar for construction of a bus terminal, would be shifted and modernised. The library has been temporarily shifted to the Odisha Administrative Tribunal (OAT) near Judicial Academy.

Ministers Ranendra Pratap Swain, Pratap Jena and Naba Kisore Das, Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) Commissioner Ananya Das, BJD organisational secretary Pranab Prakash Dash and party district president Debashish Samantaray were present at the event among others.

Before the CM arrived, the BJP Yuva Morcha staged a demonstration in Buxi Bazar. Holing black flags and banners that read “CM Go Back”, the party workers protested over the Mamita Meher murder case.

Police detained around 20 protesters, including BJP Cuttack Nagar president Lalatendu Badu and Minority Morcha president Sikandar Ali.

Congress MLA from Barabati-Cuttack, Mohammed Moquim, sat on a dharna during the CM’s visit. He sat on a dharna near the Mahatma Gandhi statue near Puri Ghat. “The CM is travelling everywhere but he doesn’t attend the House to discuss matters of public interest,” he said.
