Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Sunday made an aerial survey of the areas affected by Cyclone ‘Dana’ in the state.

A release from the chief minister’s office stated that he made the aerial survey of the affected areas in Paradip, Mahakalpada, Rajnagar, Rajkanika and Chandbali. He was accompanied by Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari and Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja.

Following the survey, the chief minister directed the officials to assess the damage caused by the cyclone soon. It would help the government disburse the compensation to the affected people, he said.

Earlier in the day, minister Pujari told the media that as many as 35,95,015 people in 1,671 gram panchayats under 108 blocks across 14 districts and 426 wards in 31 urban areas were affected by Cyclone Dana which made landfall along Odisha coasts in the early hours of October 25.

Kendrapada, Bhadrak, Balasore, Jajpur, and Mayurbhanj were the most severely impacted districts in the state, he said. “The damage assessment report will be sent to the Centre. A Central team will also visit the state to assess the damages caused by the severe cyclonic storm,” he added.
