Odisha CM Mohan Majhi Presents Rs 2.90 Lakh Crore Annual Budget With Focus On Agriculture

Bhubaneswar: Chief Mohan Charan Majhi, who holds the Finance portfolio, presented a robust state budget of Rs 2.90 lakh crore for 2025-26 fiscal in the Odisha Assembly on Monday.

The second annual budget presented by the BJP government with a total outlay of over Rs 2,90,000 crore marks a substantial increase from the budget estimates of Rs 2,65,000 crore for the 2024-25 financial year.

While presenting the budget, Majhi said that Odisha government is committed for fast paced development which has been a long standing demand of people.

The Chief Minister stated that the government has set a target to become a $ 500 billion economy by 2036, the centenary year of formation of Odisha as a separate state.

As per PM Narendra Modi’s vision of Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas, the state government is working round-the-clock for ensuring development, he said, adding that Odisha will become the growth engine for 2047 Viksit Bharat mission of of the government.

Noting that around 48 per cent work force in Odisha depended upon Agriculture and 80 per cent people live in rural areas, he said the government has allocated Rs 37,838 crore for the agriculture sector in the budget for 2025-26.

The allocation proposed for the farm sector reflects an increase of nearly 12%, Majhi said, adding that Rs 2020 crore budgetary allocation has been proposed for CM KISAN Yojana.

similarly, an amount of Rs 600 crore has been allocated for the Shree Anna Abhiyan for promotion of Millets in the state.

In an effort to boost milk production in a big way and improve livelihood of farmers under the Mukhyamantri Kamdhenu Yojana, an allocation of Rs 164 crore has been proposed in the budget.

In order to provide financial assistance to cold storage units in the state, an outlay of Rs 252 crore has been proposed for the period between 2025-26 and 2029-30.

The Chief Minister further announced that an amount of Rs 795 crore has been allocated for construction of 27,000 houses under PM-Awaas Yojana in urban areas. Similarly, Rs 4500 crore is allocated to construct 5 lakh houses under PMAY (Gramin).

An amount of 13,000 crore is proposed for Comprehensive City Road Decongestion Yojana to reduce traffic congestion in the capital city Bhubaneswar.

Similarly, an outlay of Rs 200 crore has been proposed under ‘New City Development Scheme’ in Bhubaneswar.
