Bhubaneswar/Kataka: The new building of SCB Medical College and Hospital in Kataka is expected to be inaugurated in December and become fully operational from January, Odisha Works Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan informed on Wednesday following a high-level review meeting.
A review on the progress of the new SCB Hospital building was held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. The meeting examined the status of construction, patient shifting, parking and other facilities at the hospital. “The Chief Minister took a detailed review regarding the speedy completion of the remaining construction work on the clinical blocks and auxiliary requirements, including parking. The goal is to transform SCB Medical College into a world-class institution,” Harichandan said.
The Minister further informed that work on two blocks of the new building has been completed, and the process of shifting patients will begin shortly. Construction of the remaining two blocks is also expected to be completed soon. “The residential complex is almost complete, and we are aiming to wrap up the clinical buildings by December. Arrangements to shift patients to the new facilities will be operationalised within the month of January.”
A Detailed Project Report (DPR) is currently being drafted to guide the next phase of construction, which will be finalized in a follow-up planning meeting expected within the next 8 to 10 days, he added.
Once fully operational, the modernised complex will feature expanded bed capacity, modern high-capacity clinical blocks, dedicated patient-attendant facilities, and high-density residential housing for healthcare staff on the sprawling campus.
