Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi will again embark on a visit to Jharkhand on Monday to canvass for the BJP ahead of the Assembly polls in the neighbouring state.
According to sources, he will board a chopper to Jharkhand from Rourkela at 10.30 am. He will attend two public meeting at Seraikela Kharswan and West Singhbhum districts, seeking votes for BJP candidates for Seraikela and Majhgaon Assembly seats.
The tribal leader is a star campaigner for the saffron party in Jharkhand, leading its efforts to sway voters in the regions with a sizeable population of Odia-speaking people along with Sambalpur MP and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
In September last week, Majhi had addressed two public meetings in West Singhbhum and Chaibasa and attempted to establish a personal connect with voters there by invoking the shared linguistic cultural roots of the two states. The Odisha CM belongs to the Santhal tribe, which have a signifiant presence in Jharkhand. Through him, the BJP is also hoping to counter the Jharkhand Mukti Morchas (JMM) efforts and consolidate its position among tribal voters.
The STs forms 26.2% of the total population of this tribal-dominated state, according to the 2011 Census.
Notably, the Assembly polls will be held in Jharkhand in two phases on November 13 and 20.
