Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (PGIMER) and Capital Hospital, Bhubaneswar, on Friday. The Chief Minister also interacted with the first batch of postgraduate students of PGIMER and wished them all success in future.
The Chief Minister advised the students to follow the 5T principles and offer dedicated service to their patients.
It is worth mentioning here that the Government of Odisha gave the nod to establish a Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research at Capital Hospital, Bhubaneswar, to impart postgraduate education in different clinical and non-clinical disciplines.
In the first phase, approval from National Medical Commission (NMC) has been obtained for opening six departments, which include: O&G; general medicine; general surgery; orthopaedics; paediatrics; and pulmonary medicine.
Twenty-four postgraduate students will be admitted for the academic session 2022-23. Meanwhile, the institute is yet to fill up the newly created posts of director, superintendent and faculties of the PG institute.
Currently, a new academic block is being constructed for the PGIMER and Capital Hospital, Bhubaneswar, at a cost of Rs 284 crore and work is expected to be completed by 2023 end.
In a statement, the Health Department said that the PGIMER at Capital Hospital, Bhubaneswar will boost the availability of Specialist and Super Specialist services in the state capital, in addition to providing a platform for health research.
