Bhubaneswar: Taking a swipe at Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for not attending the G20 gala dinner hosted by President Droupadi Murmu, Leader of Opposition (LoP) Jayanarayan Mishra claimed that the decision to skip the event was due to his ‘inferiority complex.’

Describing Naveen’s decision to stay away from the gala dinner despite being invited by the President as unfortunate, the firebrand BJP leader said the Chief Minister has been referring to Murmu as his sister, but ignored her invitation.

“When Droupadi Murmu was elected as the President, Naveen Babu called her his sister. However, when he was invited to the G20 banquet hosted by the President, he did not go,” said the LoP.

Stating that the Chief Minister’s move has raised many questions, Mishra said that Naveen appeared to have been guided by ‘inferiority complex’ to skip the dinner in New Delhi. He knew it very well that the state

“The CM must be knowing the reason. But it appears that some form of inferiority complex might have pulled him back. He might have thought about what he would do there in the midst of great personalities. Because of this inferiority complex, he skipped the dinner,” the BJP leader alleged

In a way it was good that he did not go there as the state’s image and dignity got saved because the CM has nothing to show about the achievements made by the state during his 23 years in power, he said.

Claiming that the situation in the state was precarious, Mishra said the state is now known for poverty and atrocities against women. The CM was afraid of facing queries about per-capita income. “Because of all these, an inferiority complex seemed to have grown in him. All these prevented him from attending the banquet,” the BJP leader claimed.

Mishra went on to lash out at the Chief Minister for not thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for projecting Odisha’s rich culture and heritage at the mega international event.

The Biju Janata Dal (BJD), on its part, is highly excited at the Konark wheel replica having been given a pride of place at the G20 summit. “It is a matter of great pride that a replica of the world famous Konark wheel was there and the Prime Minister was receiving the guests with the wheel forming the backdrop,” BJD MP Amar Patnaik said.

The best thing of a state was projected at the summit which is an indicator of recognising our rich culture and tradition, he added.
