Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday appealed all in Odisha to join the global efforts against climate change for a sustainable Earth.
“Joining Earth Hour, I will switch off all lights at Naveen Niwas from 8.30 pm to 9.30 pm today. Appeal all to join the global movement to conserve electricity and reduce global warming for a sustainable Earth, the unique home we share,” he posted on X.
The global event is observed annually on the last Saturday of March to raise awareness about climate change and promote energy conservation. This initiative calls for a global collaboration where individuals, communities, and businesses will turn off non-essential electric lights for one hour, from 8.30 pm to 9.30 pm local time.
The theme for 18th edition of Earth Hour is “Uniting for Our One Shared Home”, which emphasises the interconnectedness of all inhabitants of Earth and the shared responsibility to protect our natural world.
Last year, India saw over 150 landmarks, monuments, government buildings, educational institutions, and corporate offices turning off lights for an hour on March 25.
