Bhubaneswar: Voicing concern over the fire incident at a private hospital in Cuttack, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday ordered a high-level probe into the fire safety measures available there.
Terming the incident as unfortunate and sad, the Chief Minister said that hospitals which are meant for saving the lives of patients must adopt adequate safeguards against such mishaps.
The Chief Minister directed the Health Secretary and Cuttack Collector to take immediate steps to shift the patients to other suitable hospitals and ensure proper treatment. Expenses for their treatment will be borne by the government, he said.
Mjahi has directed the DG, Fire Services, to ensure that all rules and guidelines pertaining to fire safety are strictly adhered to.
Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling also expressed concern over the fire incident. “A special team will be constituted to conduct a thorough probe and appropriate steps taken on the basis of its report,” he told the media.
Stating that the fire at private hospital in Cuttack’s Purighat area has been brought under control, he said guidelines will be issued for nursing homes in the state based on the report of the special team.
