Odisha CM Releases COVID Package For MGNREGS Workers

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday announced a special COVID package of Rs 352 crore for daily wage workers under MGNREGS in Odisha.

A total of 32 lakh MGNREGA workers who had worked for three months from April to June will get the benefits. The workers would receive an additional Rs 50 a day for the three months.

Speaking ion the occasion Naveen hoped that the financial package will help alleviate the woes of the workers.

The Chief Minister directed officials to ensure that more work days are created at district levels so that the workers can earn more.

It may be mentioned here that in 2020, total 20 crore work days were created in Odisha under this scheme. This year, so far, 7 crore work days have been created and the Government expects to reach a target of 25 crore work days by the end of 2021.

Panchayati Raj Minister Pratap Jena joined the meeting.
