Balasore: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is likely to unveil a huge and unique statue of Lord Shiva which is being given finishing touch by a team of artists in Balasore.
A team of 15 artists have been working round-the-clock for the last five months to erect the 22-feet tall statue of Mahadev made of fibre with bronze finishing. It is being built in a unique style.
“The statue is made of fibre glass. It has a 12 mm thick layer with iron rods inside for support. It is water proof and is designed to withstand the vagaries of weather,” said artist Upendra, who is leading his team of 15 artists for the work.
The Chief Minister is slated to inaugurate the statue on virtual mode. It will be installed in the famous Darbhanga pond in Balasore, he saidn adding that there will be a fountain on the top and the surroundings would be given an aesthetic look to attract visitors.
Stating that he has been in the profession for the last over ten years, the young artist said around Rs 15 lakh has been spent for preparing the Shiva replica, which is almost ready. Now finishing touches are being given, he said.
“I am happy that the work is going to be complete. It will give a new identity to the town and attract many visitors after the Chief Minister unveils the statue,” he said.
Locals have also expressed happiness over the new creation saying the statue will be a big attraction in Balasore. Besides adding to the beauty of the town it will act as a source of inspiration for budding and upcoming artists, they said.
