Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi inaugurated and laid the foundation for 593 urban development projects involving a total investment of Rs 323 crore across 62 cities and towns of the state.
The projects were launched at a large public programme organised at OUAT Krishi Siksha Sadan in Bhubaneswar marking the state-level Local Self-Government Day.
Of the 593 projects, 423 completed works worth about Rs 102 crore were dedicated to the public, while foundation stones were laid for 170 projects to be implemented with an investment of estimated Rs 221 crore. The combined investment stands at around Rs 323 crore.
Officials said the package covers significant projects in a wide range of sectors, including roads, civic amenities and other improvement work aimed to strengthen urban local bodies.
The Chief Minister also announced Rs 560 crore for the development of 28 newly notified Notified Area Councils (NACs). Each NAC will receive Rs 20 crore for roads, housing and other infrastructure. The initiative is intended to give the newly notified areas a faster start on basic civic works.
Majhi planted a sapling in a symbolic gesture during the programme.
Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra, MLA Babu Singh, Mayor Sulochana Das, Chief Secretary Anu Garg, Additional Chief Secretary, H&UD, Usha Padhee and Director of Municipal Administration Arindam Dakua were among those present at the event.
