Bhubaneswar: The prevailing cold wave in Odisha is all set to intensify in the next 24 hours, an official of the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar said on Tuesday.
A high-pressure area over Odisha has drifted towards Central India and therefore the cold wave will intensify in the state from the night of December 30, the Met Centre Director, HR Biswas, said.
“There is every likelihood that the minimum temperature will fall by 2 to 3°C and it will be below normal by 3 to 5°C after December 31 and continue till January 2,” he added.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the temperature recorded in Odisha till 8.30 am on Tuesday was lowest in Phulbani at 5.5°C, while Daringbadi in Kandhamal district recorded 6.5°C.
Though there was a marginal rise in the day temperature in several places, the mercury dipped 15°C at 20 places in Balasore (12.6), Chandbali (13), Cuttack (13.6), Angul (12.6), Baripada (10), Jharsuguda (11.2), Keonjhar (11.2), Sambalpur (13.7), Sundargarh (10.5), Hirakud (13.2), Talcher (12.7), Bhawanipatna (11.2), Balangir (12.2), Koraput (10), Titlagarh (13), Malkangiri (12.5), Sonepur (13), Nayagarh (13.5), Boudh (10.5) and Rayagada (10).
In view of the cold wave warning, the Odisha government has alerted the collectors of six interior districts of Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Boudh and Kandhamal to take necessary measures.
