Khurda: The authorities of Balugaon College in Khurda district have banned the use of mobile phones on campus. Any student caught using a mobile phone in college will face strict action and even rustication, the authorities warned.
Clarifying the decision, college principal Vinita Manjari said the use of mobile phones was adversely affecting the students’ results. “In order to create discipline and environment where the main focus should be on studies, a decision was conclusively arrived at to abolish the use of mobile phone on campus,” she added.
The college administration had earlier decided to enforce a dress code for the students and those found flouting it faced punishment.
On their part, parents are divided over the strict guidelines issued by the college administration. While some have supported the decision to ban mobile phones on campus to improve the academic environment, others have decried it as being too harsh.
