Bhubaneswar: Con woman Hansita Abhilipsa, who allegedly cheated wealthy people in Odisha by posing as the daughter of Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary P K Mishra, broke down while being taken on police remand and claimed she has been framed.
Claiming that she was innocent, Hansita burst into tears before the media on Thursday alleging that she was being deliberately targeted as part of attempts to tarnish her image.
Hansita and her accomplice Anil Mohanty, arrested for allegedly defrauding wealthy people including builders and mines operators, were taken on remand by the police on Thursday.
Stating that she would reveal all the truths and expose the ‘false’ charges brought against her, Hansita told the media that they have not done anything wrong. She further claimed that they do not even know the person who has filed the complaint against them. The truth will come to light when investigation makes progress, she said.
Notably, the Special Crime Unit had initially requested the court for a three-day remand to investigate the allegations further. However, the court granted police remand for a day to interrogate the accused.
The modus operandi of Hansita and Anil was to digitally manipulate photographs with high-ranking officials and approach their victims with false promises of getting their tender passed. They used to introduce them to their targets as the daughter and son-in-law of the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister.
By presenting false links with influential and high-profile personalities, Hansita reportedly convinced victims, primarily targeting rich businessmen, those in the mining and construction sectors. She also posed as the wife of several high-profile businessmen, bureaucrats, and politicians as per the need of her plan to defraud her victims.
Meanwhile, officials of the Income Tax (IT) department conducted raids on the properties linked to Hansita and Anil as part of an ongoing investigation. Raids are underway in several places, including Bhuaneswar, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Jharkhand, and Delhi, sources said.
