Bhubaneswar: Appreciating the measures being taken by the state government to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus, Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Niranjan Patnaik on Wednesday donated Rs 10 lakh to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
In a letter to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, he expressed concern over the hardships faced by daily wage earners, rickshaw pullers, construction workers, street vendors and migrant labourers and pledged the amount in support of the unprivileged sections of the society.
Urging the state government to come to their rescue, Nirnajan said, “I understand a few measures, including cash pay-outs, have been announced. While these initiatives are welcome, more needs to be done.”
“I take this opportunity to commend your government for the measures it has taken to contain the COVID-1 9 outbreak and minimise its impact,” said Niranjan.
He stressed the need for the government and the citizens of the state to come together to help them in such trying times.
“To this end, I hereby contribute a sum of Rs 10 lakh to the Chief Minister Relief Fund to help provide the necessary safety net that unprivileged people of Odisha need today,” he added.
