Bhubaneswar: The Congress party has sought the intervention of Odisha Governor in death of two tribal women due to consumption of mango kernel gruel in Kandhamal district.
A delegation of Odisha unit of Congress held a meeting with Governor Raghubar Das in Raj Bhavan on Tuesday. Holding the state government responsible for the death of two women, they told the Governor that the local administration’s failure in supplying rice to the beneficiaries under the Food Security Act had led to unfortunate deaths.
“While the state government claims that it will not let anyone sleep in hunger, the deaths due to starvation had again put Odisha in bad light at the national level,” the Congress leaders said.
After giving a patient hearing to the Congress leaders, the Governor assured them that he would discuss the action taken by the government with the chief secretary.
Among others, Srikant Jena, Mohammad Mohkim, Santosh Singh Saluja and Jaydev Jena were present in the meeting with the Governor.
On Sunday, senior Congress leaders Niranjan Pattnaik and Srikant Jena expressed their shock over the incident and the government’s indifference towards human lives even as the government clarified that the death of two women was caused by food poisoning and not consumption of mango kernel gruel.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday ordered a thorough probe into the matter at the level of RDC.
